Due to the filing of controversial farm legislations, several protests have burst out in Odisha. Thus, the BJD unit within the state has decided not to implement similar laws during the monsoon session.  The officials introduced a total of seven bills in that event on Tuesday. However, two bills were missing there. They include Livestock Marketing Livestock Contract Farming Services Bill 2020 and Odisha Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Bill 2020.

Statement of Narasingh Mishra

According to the leader CLP, Mr N Mishra, the state authority is less likely to discuss those two bills in the Monsoon session. He also stated that there are only 5 days remaining for conducting the other businesses of the house. Moreover, the government has also allotted only two hours to discuss the bills because of the COVID restrictions. Therefore, they will not get enough time to introduce laws and pass them.

As per his statement, the state authority is planning to recommence them after 6 months. He also mentioned that the Congress party will ask to discuss the troubles of the farmers in the Assembly today.

Conversely, the BJP leader, Mr M Majhi stated that the government is not ready to talk about the bills after the university law mess-up. He further added that the debate on the legislation has already begun and will resume on both Saturday and Sunday.

Controversies regarding the bills

As per reports, cooperation minister, Mr Ranendra Pratap Swain ought to pilot those two farm bills. However, he tested positive for COVID-19 and cannot attend the event. Besides, the agriculture minister namely AK Sahu has claimed that he is totally unaware of any such bills that are to introduce in the Monsoon session. So, the whole situation seems to be in an undesirable hotchpotch. To get more news on Odisha, stay tuned with us.
