The cyclists pedaled from the OSRTC office(Odisha State Road Transport Corporation), covering the key junctions from AG- Square, Unit- 6 Hospital Square, Shishu Bhawan Square, Raj Mahal Square, Ram Mandir Square till Unit 4. It was organized to proliferate the level of awareness on Road Safety among the active participants of self-transportation. A vast number of cyclists engaged themselves in the Cyclothon to publicize the theme of the event, ‘Pedal for road safety.’ There were varieties of stunts performed by the cyclists to make the event even more eye-catching and amusing.
“Drive safety rules are the best tools.”
This event’s sole purpose is to create a consciousness among the people using private and public transportation and the young choice-riders breaking the road rules and regulations.
Many breakages of road rules such as drink and drive, tripling, not wearing the seat belt in four-wheelers, not wearing a helmet in two-wheelers, over speeding the vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road, using cell phones while driving, and not following the traffic signals, leads to major road accidents.
Moreover, India has the second-largest road network in the world. So, more road accidents can be expected in this case.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway data, in 2018, it was estimated that India stands in the 3rd position in road accidents. Out of which nearly 1.51 lakhs accidents were fatal.
So, staying alert all the time while driving should be the concern of every individual. Following the traffic signals and rules is beneficial not just for the driver but also for the other riders on the road.
