Heavy Rainfall in 5 districts of Odisha: MET Department

The Odisha MET department issued an orange warning to 5 districts, Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur and Boudh, saying it may receive heavy rainfall for the next three to four days.

The low pressure continues to persist in the state, leading to variation in the amount of rainfall from place to place. The other 17 districts, like the coastal districts and the districts touching the coastal belts, are given yellow warnings of low to moderate rainfall, including drizzle.

It is advised by the MET department to the district officers to be aware of their canals and dams, and they are advised to take precautions to check flood situations in the districts where flood situations may arise. The amount of rainfall to be received in the orange warned districts might fluctuate. Hence the locals and fishermen are advised not to go fishing.

The head of the regional IMD center, H R Biswas, said 6 out of 30 states are exempted from rainfall. It is seen from the monsoon landfall that many districts are receiving ample rainfall, whereas many districts are exempted from it. The coastal belt districts face ample to moderate rainfall, whereas the landlocked districts hardly receive rain.

Way Forward

Hence, the variation in rainfall seen is the result of climate change, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) suggests. Therefore, every individual has to take small steps to preserve nature and balance the ecosystem.
