The decision of BJD to hold back the name of its new district president highlighted the conflict between the Balikuda Erasama legislator-cum-Water-Resource-Minister Raghunandan Das and Jagatisinghpur MLA Prasant Muduli. The chief minister of Odisha as well as BJP supremo Mr Naveen Patnaik accepted the names of the new district presidents. But he did not approve that of Balasore and Jagatsinghpur. The reports suggest that the officials decided to hold the bypolls in the Tirtol of Balasore and Jagatisghpur Assembly. Thus, BJD chose not to announce the names of the young chiefs of those districts. The sole purpose is to avert the disagreements among the political leaders.
Reports from different sources
According to the sources, the local BJD leader and chairperson of Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation Amarendra Das suggested the name of Saumyajit Mohapatra who is the member of Balikuda. The Jagatsinghpur MP Rajashree Mallick also elected the same name for the post of the youth president. On the other hand, the present district chief elected the name of another candidate, Samit Lenka.
In the last year’s General Elections, BJD chose to replace Prasant with Raghunandan for the seat of Balikuda-Erasama. It, in turn, developed a rift between both the leaders.
Statement of Mr Pradipta Bhuyan
Mr Pradipta Bhuyan, the chief of the Jagatsinghpur Student BJD stated that the late Tirtol MLA Bishnu Das recommended his name for the post. He even said that he has been serving the state as a disciplined party member since 2008. But the Jagatsinghpur legislator, Local MP, Balikuda-Erasama MLA, are together lobbying to elect their desired candidates. Mr Bhuyan even added that every party leader should suggest the name of a single candidate for the post. But because of their inner conflicts, the party has decided not to announce the name of the youth president.
